The Kentucky Horse Park is famous in many equestrian disciplines, but for Eventers, the crown jewel event is the Kentucky 3 Day Horse Trials.

Every April, 50 or so horse and rider combinations qualify for and enter the competition.

In the second phase, cross country, at least half the combinations are eliminated.

Even more pairs pull out before the final morning of competition, or don't pass job out inspections, a requirement to compete in every phase.

It's brutal and beautiful.
